“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of
this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the
face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all
these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Earth Day 2010 – Do You Worship the Earth?

April 22, 2010 was Earth Day. I didn’t even know until my daughter told me. Now it makes sense why for the past week or so I noticed that the cartoons my kids were watching had a more than normal emphasis on being Green and caring for our planet.

On the one hand, it’s so aggravating to see all the climate crazy, global warming nonsense, and it really drives me nuts to see cartoons that I think are safe for my kids trying to pump that worldview into them. However, on the other hand, shouldn’t we be good stewards of this wonderful planet that God gave us?

This is where I think we need to draw the line. Which do you love more: God, Mankind, or the Earth? I think we should love those three in that order, and only in that order. I don’t think I need to point this out, but for the sake of anyone who may not realize it, the overarching theme of the Bible is that God must be first. It is the first of the Ten Commandments and, “Jesus said [], “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37—38 (NKJV).

Now, consider the role God gave Mankind in relation to the Earth:

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1: 26—28 (NKJV). By the way, the Bible never mentions the word “Trinity,” but did you notice the presence of the Trinity in that passage?

Back in the Garden of Eden (yes, I believe it was a real place), Adam and Eve worshipped God and had dominion over the Earth. Look how far we’ve fallen now. Over the last one hundred years or so, God has increasingly been pushed out of our lives, and the Earth has been elevated over Mankind in importance. The order most of our world now worships is: Earth, Mankind … and sorry God, no room for you.

The Apostle Paul explained that this reversal comes from the fact that we love our sin more than our Creator, so God has given us what we wanted:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Romans 1:18—25 (NKJV).

My point is not that you should start throwing all your garbage on the side of the road, and creating as much pollution as you possibly can. We have a duty, as the caretakers of the Earth, to take care of it. I’m completely pro-recycling for that purpose. My only point is to make sure your priorities are right. We do not have the ability to destroy the Earth on our own, because God owns and controls the Earth:

The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.
Psalm 24:1, 2 (NKJV). Furthermore, it will not be us who destroy the Earth through global warming, but God Himself, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” 2 Peter 3:10 (NKJV).

Read some of the below linked articles critically and with an open mind, and consider who is really in charge of the Earth.  Think about how mixed up and confused the scientific community is about global warming.

Putting your faith in Mother Nature will not help you on Judgment Day when you face God the Father! Get right with God today by repenting from your sin, and trusting that God the Son, Jesus Christ, took the penalty from God the Father that you deserve. It’s not an easy thing to do because it requires humbling our pride, but I did it, and so could you!
